Social Networking #9

I think that my memory is failing – because I can’t remember being without e-mail.  I suppose it was in the late 80’s that I purchased my first computer – an Acer from the local big box store.  I know my kids were estatic! My son played games and my pre-school daughter not only learned to read, but to type and to IM!

I got my first free email account and merrily sent my new address to all my friends on my annual Holiday card list.  Months later, I closed that account because one of those friends insisted on forwarding every prayer, poem, cute puppy picture, and command to forward good luck postings to 10 more people or I would face unfortunate consequences.  (I was too chicken to address her directly, so I just quietly closed the account).  I am much more careful with my address now!

A few years later, a graduate school class was assigned a group project.  Along with the others in the group working part-time retail jobs at bizzare hours, we had no opportunities to meet in person, so the entire project – paper and presentation with power point was done using email – nearly 500 of them!

Recently, another graduate school group project was easily completed electronically using Google.docs.  Wow!  We created documents, made upgrades, comments, and never lost track of which document was the most recent.  Check it out by going to www.google.com and clicking on the more link.

Amazing!
